Back from gaming-free vacation

Busy week ahead, WoW Patch 8.2 is supposed to happen in 3h (start of downtime) and FFXIV’s Shadowbringers expansion will be out in a few days as well. Kinda looking forward to the WoW thing more because I am still not finished with Heavensward and still need to do all of Stormblood and again I am a little disheartened because I can’t see the shiny thing and maybe all hopes of starting in February and rushing through base game + 2 expansions while being completely new to the game were ridiculous in the first place, once I kinda breezed through Heavensward I had high hopes it could be done. But the Heavensward post-story (without gaining levels in a meaningful way) somehow killed the flow. Yes, I fully admit that level dings seem to hugely motivate me to continue.

So I just came back from summer vacation and didn’t play anything except a few rounds of Picross (Two Eyes in this case, get it, it’s nice and looks awesome) on my phone. Regarding this post’s title: It’s not that I actively don’t count mobiles games as games, but I don’t count my 5 minutes of solving a level of Picross mobile gaming.

Played a few hours of WoW today (Gnome Rogue to 98, Mag’har Rogue to 47, Undead DK to 110, ground 1.5k of Shaohao rep) but nothing breathtaking, just chilling and work starts again tomorrow.

Also for some reasons I’ve been watching Warhammer miniature painting videos half the evening, I blame AggroChat ~254-257 for mentioning the GW contrast paints. Maybe I should take up mini painting again, it’s been quite a few years.

Picross, Nonograms, puzzles

I might have mentioned it in the past, but Mario’s Picross was one of my favorite games on the Game Boy Classic (although I got my own copy only in early 2003 and played it on a GBA) and I’ve solved these nonograms on paper in puzzle magazines, and played through quite a few games. It never seems to get old.
Currently I’m playing “Picross Fairytale – nonogram: Red Riding Hood secret” and it’s one of the hardest ones I’ve ever played. (The music is nice, too, but the “story” is a bit thin and gladly skippable”. It seems to be free to play still, so go get it.
There’s also InfiniPicross (played for 27h, got 22/22 achievements) and Picross Touch (played for 99 hours, 17/18 achievements, including one for 1000 puzzles done, yikes). Also both very good.
On Android I played Picross Luna and am playing Picross Luna II right now (but I don’t like their near-endless engame with like 100 puzzles that form a complete picture) and Two Eyes. All of them are pretty cool.

Quick Update: Ragnarok

Three weeks flew past and I didn’t really do much than work too much and then play some games at night.
It’s still mostly Ragnarok. Hunter is 86/50, Blacksmith is 68/27 and actually fun to level these days. The Acolyte is a Priest now (sitting at 54/1), the Dancer is 58/13 and my Holy Cross Crusader is already 66/27. And then there’s 2 3x/3x Thieves who will be Assassin and Rogue. Altoholism to the next level. The Gunslinger is stalled at 45 though.
I’ve also started playing Lost Lands on Steam which is F2P and in a genre I didn’t even know I liked. You have a picture and have to search for certain objects in a short timespan in this picture. But graphically it reminds me of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and overall it has some RPG feeling to it with quests and stuff. It’s nice and you can play without paying for anything in the cash shop 2-3 times for 10 minutes each per day.
And I’m also playing Fallout Shelter, another “let’s spend 1-5min several times per day” game.

Android Games roundup

Stuff I liked, mostly puzzle games

Stuff I had installed but never tried?

Stuff I hated

And yes, “My apps” on the play store is quite handy for such a list.

What now?

In summary, I am not too impressed with all the Android games I tried. I loved hardly any of those, I liked a few, but mostly they entertained me for not very long.

I’ve never been a big “mobile” gamer, my only real console was a Game Boy Advance that I used from 2002 to 2005 maybe, thus I will speak in terms of what I know:
Everything twitchy is out, as I hate the controls on the phone (Tetris, Dr. Mario, Xenon 2).
Same for Jump’n’Runs and Racing basically. (Super Mario Land, Mario Kart)
I am not in the mood for RPGs right now, so anything like Zelda, Golden Sun or Pokémon is out.
And I’ve never been a huge fan of Mega Man, Castlevania or Metroid.
Picross could work well I think. And Great Little War Game reminds me of Advance Wars of Final Fantasy Tactics.
