Raiding

Raiding the Voidspire – Week 8

On Sunday we did the current routine of Chimaerus Heroic (still 1 wipe), then March on Normal, then the first 3 in Voidspire (no wipes) and then a 2nd kill of the dragons on the sixth pull.

Tuesday people apparently didn’t want to go wiping so we did a full normal reclear of the remaining 7 bosses, boo.

In M+ we managed to get all dungeons except Windrunner Spire to 12 (and a 13 Pit of Saron), so close to resilient keys.

Raiding the Voidspire – Week 7

On Sunday it was time for Chimaerus again, first Heroic (3 wipes, ugh), then Normal. Then a quick visit to March Normal and then a reclear of the first 3 in Voidspire on Heroic. So that’s 4 for the Vault already, but now wipes on Dragons on the program for Tuesday.

The Dragons actually died, around pull 21 (7 wipes today), although we only had 10 people. Then we got some 10 tries in on Lightblinded Vanguard, none better than 76% and I messed up quite a few tank swaps. In my defense the addons seemed to show really weird timings and I had to fiddle with settings between tries.

For M+, we timed a 12 and a 13 this week after getting all 8 portals last week (on Warrior). I’ve also tanked a few 10s (and one 11) on my DH and I’ve done a couple 6-8s on my Blood DK. Season of the tank I guess.

Raiding the Voidspire – Week 6

On Sunday we cleared Chimaerus and March on Quel’Danas on Normal (1 wipe on Belo’ren), then back to Heroic Voidspire and 3 bosses died.

On Tuesday we started with Chimaerus Heroic, who died on the second pull (5 wipes overall), then we cleared Voidspire Normal with zero wipes, then tried the two dragons again on Heroic, but not a lot of progress in 5 wipes.

I’m noticing that I keep missing to write these posts but juggling 3 instances is a bit weird and progress was uncommon this time as well. We’re 4/9 Heroic now, which feels a little slow, but not terrible I guess. When the Voidspire Normal reclears stop we should have more time anyway.

Raiding the Voidspire – Week 2 & 3

So I was indeed made a raid tank (well, they did ask and I had offered to do it) and we went for the Voidspire first.

That Sunday we killed the first 3 on Normal and people were less upset about our progress, and then 2 more on Tuesday, but Chimaerus still proved harder than anticipated, with some low percentage wipes.

Week 3 we killed 4 on Sunday, then cleared the Voidspire on Tuesday, and had time left to kill Chimaerus – so 7 in total. So far the two dragons and Chimearus proved to be our roadblocks.

So if we ignore that first night: 1 wipe on Averzian, 3 on Vorasius (incl 1 on rekill), 0 on Saladhaar, 12 on Vaelgor (incl 5 on rekill), 8 on Paladins (incl 1 on rekill), 6 wipes on Crown, 3 wipes on Chimaerus.

Not completely happy with this, but at least we reovered.

Raiding the Voidspire – Week 1

Disclaimer first: For the last 5 years I’ve titled these posts mostly “Raiding [name of the Raid instance]”, because there was only one per season. The last time I remember having several raids per tier was in Mists of Pandaria, 12 years ago (and I have no clue about the 8 years inbetween where I didn’t raid). So maybe I’ll just keep calling the whole tier the Voidspire, this is my blog after all.

So Sunday was the first raid, we had a potential cadre of 19 people, 15 showed up. Unfortunately one of our healers wasn’t finished leveling and out sick (thus the delay) and the replacement had barely reached 90 and postponed raiding for lack of time, so we had to scramble for a replacement first. Before our pre-raid meeting 2 weeks ago we were still short a tank as well, but one of our long-standing more casual guildies stepped up, which was nice, so I was off the hook as one of two replacement tanks.

We tried Chimaerus in the Dreamrift first, unfortunately no better than 38% in 8 tries (my damage as Fury was kinda meh), so we switched to Imperator Averzian and got 9 tries in, best at 20% and 16%. People were not happy with our new tank at all, so I’ll probably have to do it on Tuesday… and actually watch a video I guess.

Update: Tuesday raid was cancelled.

I managed to raid

Phew, an exciting week!
I was lucky and a spot opened up in my new guild’s newbie raid, so I got to do Story Mode Terror From Beyond and then Veteran Eternity Vault yesterday. So January 22th 2012 to November 12th 2018 that’s… nearly 6 years and 10 months. Also apparently we really did Nightmare mode back then, according to my achievements – it’s just puzzling that I didn’t have the Veteran 8 man clear achievements (only Normal), but those “Archived” ones show “Master mode”, i.e. old Nightmare mode. It’s weird.
Got some nice drops, so I’m at Item Rating 246 now – the first pieces not from Command Chests. It also was really fun, raiding for the first time since 4.5 years? I guess I stopped with WoW raids in early 2014. Wasn’t particularly challenging, though – the whole team being quite well equipped, everyone except me kinda knowing what to do, and then it was only SM and VM, not really hard – I mean we 7 manned Veteran EV, and one DPS was in tanking gear, that’s why needed 2 tries on the first 2 bosses. I died more than most others, but I wasn’t always in last place (from 3/4 DPS), so I’m really happy with the result. I’m not hooked again and want to RAID RAID RAID again soon, but I’d love to see all the Operations and I guess Veteran would be doable, even if I was capable I’m absolutely not keen on regular Master mode raiding 😛
I just need to read up on my rotations, on stationary fights I was overheating all the time and thus DPS suffered.
Also managed to finish the Conquest on three chars again, for a total contribution of roughly 60k.
All in all the “be in a guild again” is a really cool experience – having people to chat, and it’s low key right now without mandatory attendance and I can do a little to contribute (helping to conquer a planet, just helped someone with a fight in a Veteran chapter) and I’m getting rewards (for the planet conquest) and the opportunity to go on a raid. I guess that sounded a bit exploitative, but I don’t see taking something from anyone – I didn’t join for phat loots, so I see it as a win-win.
PS: I totally went through this post again and replaced “Heroic” with “Veteran” – I hate this change.

  • Normal Mode – Story Mode
  • Heroic Mode – Veteran Mode
  • Nightmare Mode – Master Mode

PPS: Cheers to Archarius of Tulak Hord who wanted to get the “50 people in the Stronghold achievement” and asked in General while promising 5m – and actually handed it out to a long queue of people 🙂

Nostalgia: The blog that never was

In August 2007, a bit over 2 years before starting this blog, I already had started a wow blog. As I was playing a Rogue, it was aptly named Vanish!

Some time ago I found all 5 posts I had posted there, before taking it down again (no clue why) and now I’m sharing them, lightly edited.

Welcome onboard (Thu, 16 Aug 2007 23:27:27 +0200)

If there’s one thing the world doesn’t need, it’s probably another blog about WoW. But we will see how useless it will be.
As of now this blog is without a real theme, mostly it will be about Rogues, Druids, Warlocks, Raiding, Addons and, to a degree, about PvP, WoWWiki [1], Arena and the other classes.
The only editor (atm) has been playing since May 2005 with just a few breaks not longer than a month. That’s why he owns a 70 Rogue, 70 Druid, 65 Warlock, 35 Warrior and 19 Hunter Twink. He never really rerolled, just made chars to redo quests up to level 10 or visit friends on other servers. These were mostly Warriors that made it to their 20s on Arathor-EU, Vek’lor-DE, Malygos-DE and some others.
From the DE you can also see that he’s from Germany. He’s been living in Munich for more than 20 years, studying Computer Science for some years now and playing video games for less than 20 years. Normally he doesn’t talk about himself in the third person, but he started this post and was too lazy to rewrite it.

Maulgar is king! (Fri, 17 Aug 2007 00:20:00 +0200)

Some hours ago I finished the first run to Gruul’s Lair with my guild. The Unstable Flasks are quite handy, and as I had 1000 Apexis Shards on my Druid I made a stack of 20 and was happy to get some bankspace back.
Sadly it didn’t run too well, the pull really is awfully complicated and we wiped… and wiped… and wiped. Good thing is that I could run out and not die most of the times when the pull failed. Still some repair costs and time feels a bit wasted as I didn’t do much besides clicking ok to readycheck and dpsing Blindeye sometimes. Oh, and sorting out DKP from a handful of screenshots will definitely be more demanding than my role in this fight.

Stupidest Feature ever (Sat, 18 Aug 2007 02:19:25 +0200)

The berserker buff in instances not only gives you +30% damage, it also lets your model grow in size.
Now if you take the berserker buff inside the Stables, try to run out because it’s busy with Alliance and can’t get through the archway you just used and thus die… you wanna strangle someone responsible for that…

Games Convention 2007 (Mon, 27 Aug 2007 01:39:56 +0200)

The GC was quite interesting, but I couldn’t be bothered to queue up for 2h or more just to get to play Wrath of the Lich King for maybe 10 mins. Too much fuzz. The Trading Card Game seemed quite nice, although it’s a bit sad that the Upper Deck employees didn’t really know more than the absolute basics of the game.

Maulgar was king (Mon, 27 Aug 2007 01:44:38 +0200)

Second night of Gruul’s Lair. After some attempts on Maulgar I was feared into the wall with full health and mana and had to watch one after the other die. At 1% the only remaining Paladin couldn’t keep the MT up anymore and we wiped. Quite frustrating, as I tried everything from casting “target not in line of sight” and them positioning Maulgar in front of the wall I was inside to Auto-Unstuck (which doesn’t work in battle of course…). But the next try we killed him with 25man up (maybe 1 or battle rezzes used) and then even got Gruul to 60%, let’s wait for next week.

Stuff

I was thinking about starting a WoW blog – “The most uninteresting blog of all time”, where I would list stuff I did every day.
For today it would look a little like this:

  • Levelled Pandaren Monk from mid-65 to start of 67 in Nagrand and Blade’s Edge – gotta love that 1h EXP buff
  • Ran Headless Horseman for the second time on my Alliance Rogue for the Sword and got it
  • Was publicly looking forward to maybe finally raid with my Alliance Guild in the next expansion due to Flex Raid (I usually log in once per expansion, say hi, level to the cap in a short time, vanish, come back to level up professions, vanish until next expansion) – was told to go to the Timeless Isle to grab some gear
  • I actually went to the Timeless Isle to get some gear, but was missing a few pieces, so got the Horde Druid over there as well to collect more leather gear

That’s when you get to sit out on a Raid day and your guild doesn’t kill Garrosh again…
