A certain kind of completionism

I have this thing where I want to have one of every class in MMOs I play. This is not too uncommon, but I usually also want to at least have one of every race, and sometimes one of every gender. Basic math says this usually does not work out well without having too many duplicates. And really, who needs 4 max-level rogues? 3 should be enough.
Anyway, I have this problem in SWTOR right now.
I’ve got all the classes at 50+, most at 70 – check.
I’ve got a healthy mix of male(3) and female(5) characters – check.
Now the races are more complicated:

  • Cyborg – female (but Human is really close)
  • Chiss – male
  • Human – male (but Cyborg is really close)
  • Sith Pureblood – female
  • Rattataki – female
  • Twi’lek – female
  • Miraluka – female (still pretty close to Human/Cyborg)
  • Zabrak (light/non-red) – female
  • Mirialan – male and female

So that means these races are completely missing:

  • Cathar
  • Togruta

And because SWTOR has one voice actor each per class and gender, for all the combos of advanced class (e.g. Jedi Knight & Guardian, where the voice actor is the same) I want to have the other gender. The only 2 classes where I already started the second playthrough on the other gender are Jedi Consular and Imperial Agent.
So this means I’m still missing these (yeah I said 5 female earlier, but it’s 7 including the lowbies):

  • Mercenary – male
  • Sith Marauder – female
  • Sith Sorcerer – male
  • Jedi Guardian – male
  • Gunslinger – male
  • Vanguard – male

I also already made one character model in the creator I really like, so the Sith Marauder is basically set to Cyborg, or more likely, Human and female.
Now where to put the male Cathar and Togruta? Clipping is an issue with the Twi’lek Lekku and as far as I’ve seen, also with the Togruta. So maybe not the Mercenary where I’m inclined to have a helmet on from time to time. Also not the Gunslinger, because that would just mirror my Twi’lek Smuggler.
Then there’s the point of having a non-standard class in one of the factions, so maybe a Rattataki Vanguard would be nice (once I have the Sniper at 50 to unlock the race for the legacy).
So maybe this will work out:

  • Sith Marauder – female Human
  • Sith Sorcerer – male Zabrak
  • Jedi Guardian – male Togruta
  • Gunslinger – male Cathar
  • Vanguard – male Rattataki (could be Cathar, but I don’t want a second Aric Jorgan, also Rattataki look more badass)
  • Mercenary – yeah, that’s the only one where I’m still at a total loss, could also be Twi’lek, or Sith Pureblood, or anything

Wouldn’t it be nice if you only had these problems in your life? 🙂 I have the same problem for WoW, but as I’m not actively playing right now I won’t go into detail here. Ragnarok Online was kinda nice where you only had cute humans in male and female and a few hair styles and colors to choose from…
PS: Blaugust has started and this is my sixth post.

Stuff is happening… slowly

Sick at home, actually so bad that I can’t sit and play for more than an hour or two, so haven’t undocked in EVE (my new favorite game) in a few days.
Blogging would be totally possible, with a laptop in bed, just that nothing really happened. Plus I hope my sentences make sense.
Despite all of this I managed to level my Mordesh Stalker from 19 to 35 in the last 2 weeks or so, only adding a few of those levels in the last days, so at least something to write down. Awesome.
Failed the Malgrave Trail Veteran Adventure run on my main by a small margin on first try, so nothing really new there, it will still take tremendous time to get attuned.

Weekend wrapup

Thanks to the prolonged Pentecost weekend there was stuff happening.
OK, I didn’t level that much because we finally had some sun ’round here, but still… Spellslinger is nearly 21 and Stalker is 15 and has a lot and a mount.
I am not 100% happy with questing as a duo. Yes, people can disagree – but the Soldier quests are quite ok, you just kill a little bit more stuff than usual, but the Settler quests really end up costing time. And again the challenges (especially pickup) that start when you just made a little plan to clear out that camp. We’ve taken to taking turns on those, so one is grabbing everything, the other is killing mobs in the way – but it’s just ok, not really amazing.
But! … the game is still fun, although that raid attunement stuff Syl posted about did not sound fun at all… Basically I hated the Karazhan attunement back in TBC already and this sounds like a lot more work… but at least I haven’t yet decided if I will raid at all. Que sera, sera.

LFR Tanking

My Alliance Warrior hit 90 a while ago and with Timeless Gear and a little drop luck in ToT I managed to get into SoO LFR quite soon. People were mostly horrible due to the “lol undergeared tank” but by not doing stupid things and sometimes explaining tactics they usually quieted down quickly. I’m approaching my guild’s gear requirement of ca. 520 for flex, hopefully next reset I’m done.
Other than that I took advantage of the Diablo 3 experience buff, my Wizard is nearly Level 50 and quite fun to play.
Trying out the WordPress Android App, seems to be quite nice.

LFR again

The Rogue mentioned in the last post has hit Level 90 after 3d 6h /played, grabbed some Timeless gear and is visiting ToT right now.

Apart from that our first hour of Algalon for the Herald feat was not successful, let’s hope for next week.

Meanwhile I dug out my Night Elf Prot Warrior that’s been levelled nearly exclusively via tanking 5mans till 63 a year or so ago. Current level is 80, yay Cataclysm.

Other than that, on my main’s server we’re now working on Heroic Spoils after a few weeks on Malkorok.

I cancelled my EVE subscription after 4 months, but I plan to come back. Other than that I just installed LoL and will hopefully try it soon with some colleagues.

Future plans include definitely WildStar and maybe Starbound.

For the… Alliance?

Been busy with levelling a Dwarf Shammy on a different server where some friends play and got recruited for a Herald of the Titans run and capped XP at 80 and been collecting some 226 gear right now.
As that char was blocked now I started to level my original “hi, I’m visiting” character, a Gnome Rogue, which hit Outland and then 60 yesterday.

Stuff

I was thinking about starting a WoW blog – “The most uninteresting blog of all time”, where I would list stuff I did every day.
For today it would look a little like this:

  • Levelled Pandaren Monk from mid-65 to start of 67 in Nagrand and Blade’s Edge – gotta love that 1h EXP buff
  • Ran Headless Horseman for the second time on my Alliance Rogue for the Sword and got it
  • Was publicly looking forward to maybe finally raid with my Alliance Guild in the next expansion due to Flex Raid (I usually log in once per expansion, say hi, level to the cap in a short time, vanish, come back to level up professions, vanish until next expansion) – was told to go to the Timeless Isle to grab some gear
  • I actually went to the Timeless Isle to get some gear, but was missing a few pieces, so got the Horde Druid over there as well to collect more leather gear

That’s when you get to sit out on a Raid day and your guild doesn’t kill Garrosh again…

WoW looks, revisited

rogue-t5
Rogue in Tier 5

warrior-t1
Warrior in Tier 1

Looking back at my last post in 2010, just before the long hiatus, nothing much has changed. Besides Transmogrification – a thing I really love. Especially as I’ve held on to all my old gear for years in anticipation of such a feature 🙂
The real impact is that I could avoid race-changing my Blood Elves, I’m quite happy with a female BE Paladin in (nearly) full Tier 2 and the male BE Priest in Tier 5 doesn’t look too bad either.
So here are a few screenshots and description of what I’ve been sporting for quite a while now, I’m not changing much really.
Priest in Tier 5
Priest in Tier 5

Paladin in Tier 2
Paladin in Tier 2

Rogue: Belt is from MoP, the rest is Tier 5, Daggers unchanged.
Warrior: Mostly Tier 5, Axe is unchanged, Rich Purple Silk Shirt fits excellently.
Hunter: Tier 1 mostly, replaced the Helm with Lightning Crown and the pants with Leggings of Twisted Vines. And Zod’s Repeating Longbow of course, best bow ever.
Paladin: Full Tier 2, missing the Helm and a Draconic Avenger that conveniently dropped while doing BWL for the Tier pieces.
Priest: Tier 5, not much more to say.

Tales of my inactivity are greatly exaggerated

Oh, it has been a while. *dusts off blog*
Mostly because I havent’t been enjoying WoW as much as I used to.
My 90s right now are Rogue, Warrior, Shaman, Hunter, Priest, Paladin and Rogue, with a Warlock at 89 and a Druid at 87. I don’t do Pet Battles, Achievement Hunting is stalling, but apparently levelling is ok again since the 5.3 XP boost. Oh, and levelling a Shadow Priest sucks donkey balls, dito instances and Disc is kind of ok, but was more fun at 80. =( Then again I’m having a blast as Affliction, I think I’ve last enjoyed my Warlock as much in TBC.
The big question this expansion will be if the 85 Mage and DK will make it to max level and whether I can be bothered to gear up any alts besides a few. I really hate LFR for being such pointless facerolling, for now my plans are to have 1-2 alts for flex raids when they hit and to really, really, really ignore the other max level chars instead of wasting time. Good old pick up alt raids on Aggramar were awesome, LFR is not.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

When I read this post on Hunter pets, I started my reply with a huge summary about wow races, in my usual way of telling people what I think, no matter if they want to listen.
Then I did a quick cut and paste and present this post instead. So Jaedia’s dislike of female Orcs is to blame. Purely.

Anyway, I noticed that ny taste of wow races has changed so much over the years:

2005:
  • Awesome: Human female, Orc male, Dwarf male
  • OK: Tauren male, Gnome female, NE female
  • Ugly: The rest, especially Undead
  • No,no,no,no: Dwarf female, NE male
2009/2010:
  • Awesome: Orcs, Troll male, Human+NE female, Gnomes
  • OK: The rest
  • No,no,no,no: BE male, NE male
I think a big part is that I didn’t want to play just Orcs over the years – if it was even possible, due to class restrictions, and nowadays I’m ok with nearly all the toons I ever started.
So the only “pending race changes” for me are
Priest: BE male to… whatever
Paladin: BE female to… Tauren

Which leaves me with these choices, for now:

  • Orc Rogue, male: hell yeah, screw the 90% lookalike Undead Rogues with their weird animations
  • Tauren Druid, male: Not much to choose from
  • Troll Warrior, male: I love the animations, plus it’s a rare combo – win.
  • Orc Shaman, female: Apart from all the horrible hairstyles, very nice.
  • Undead Mage, male: While I dislike Undead in general, male Priests and Mages are ok. With a dress *snicker*
  • Human Rogue, female: I chose Human for the shortened rep grinds and nice racials, plus the looks are ok. Now I’m a bit jealous of Gnomes, they’re nice. And extra sneaky.
  • Blood Elf Paladin, female: See above, can’t wait to be a cow lady. Sick of Blood Elves.
  • Orc Hunter, male: Nothing to say here, Orcs make really cool Hunters – male or female. Next best bet is Troll male and NE female. Oh, and Dwarves.
  • Blood Elf Warlock, female: A toon I rolled at the very start of TBC to “have a look at the new race and starting zone”. I find Warlock the best fit for a Blood Elf, and although I’m sick of the general abundance of them, I’m happy with my Warlock.
  • Blood Elf Priest, male: Not happy with the model, I dread the decision a bit. Not really sure which race I’d pick if I changed it.
  • Undead Death Knight, male: Most DKs are Blood Elves or Orcs it seems, and I already had a Troll plate wearer, so Undead it was. Quite happy with the choice.

Edit: What the hell, WordPress. Would you please stop eating my formatting? Wall of Massive Text without paragraphs sucks…
